It was another brilliant piece of stumping by England wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor during the 1st One day international of the Women’s Ashes played at Grace Road, Leicester on 2nd July 2019.

Australian captain Meg Lanning won the toss and decided to bowl first. It was a brilliant bowling effort by the Australian team who bowled well in tandem and bowled out England for a modest total of 177 in 46.5 overs. Natalie Sciver was the top scorer for England with 64. Ellyse Perry was the pick of bowlers with 3 wickets while Megan Schutt, Jess Jonassen and Asheligh Garnder took 2 wickets each, Kimmiance picked 1 wicket.

Chasing down the target of 178 runs to win, Nicole Bolton went cheaply for 2 runs. Meg Lanning was Leg before the wicket by Katherine Brunt. The incident took place in the 18th over when Natalie Sciver bowled a wide delivery and Sarah Taylor produces lightning fast stumping to dismiss the dangerous Ellyse Perry. At that time, Australia were 67 for 3.

Despite England bowling efforts, Australia won the match by just 2 wickets with 45 balls to spare. Ecclestone was the pick of bowlers for England with 3 for 34, Laura Marsh took 2 wickets, Shrubsole, Brunt and Sciver took 1 wicket. With this win, Australia took a 1-0 lead in the series. 

It was an exciting encounter between two top teams in the world. Australia is currently the champions of Women’s Ashes that was played in 2017. It promises to be an exciting series between these two teams in the upcoming matches.
