T20 leagues in several countries across the world are getting a lot of attention and few of them were able to produce several power hitters. Youngsters have been using it as a platform to showcase their skills and announce the readiness to the international arena.
BPL, BBL, IPL, CPL and several other leagues are really creating an impact in the lives of talented youngsters. As the things for the inaugural edition of UAE T20 league were going on a full swing, the board has some disappointing news for the fans.
Just before the brand ambassadors started to announce their five emerging picks for the much awaited UAE T20 league, the Emirates Cricket Board has said that it has decided to cancel the plans. The official page of UAE T20 league mentioned that the board along with OPI, the sponsors have agreed mutually to drop all the plans as there wasn’t enough response for the call of tenders.
Out of the five teams, only two teams were brought by the buyers while the other three didn’t attract many. This comes as a shocker for many young players who were trying to make their dreams into reality. While several critics and legends predicted that this tournament will act as a means for the revival of cricket in UAE, the announcement has certainly upset the cricketing world.
It is to be noted that Global T20 league was planned by Cricket South Africa last year and even teams were formed for the league. However, financial constraints forced them to refrain from the same and the efforts that the board put to make it happen this year deserves an applause.
