Mohammed Shami played a key role during India’s 2015 tournament. He took 17 wickets in 7 matches (7 innings) with best figures of 4/35. His figures in World Cup 2015 are still his best figures in ODI cricket so far. During that World Cup, Shami troubled the opposition batsmen and finished as the 4th leading wicket-taker in the tournament with an economy of 4.81 runs per over.
Shami made his ODI debut against Pakistan on 6th Jan 2013. Since he has played only 52 ODI matches (51 innings) and taken 94 wickets with an economy of 5.55 runs per over.
India’s star bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were rested for the first 3 ODI matches against West Indies at home, Shami was expensive giving away 81 runs and picking 2 wickets during 1st ODI at Guwahati and was smashed for 59 runs taking 1 wicket.
He was not selected in the 3rd ODI and then was dropped from the team in the next two ODI matches. With Khaleel Ahmed performing decently in ODI cricket, Shami might not be selected for 15 member squad for World Cup 2019.
